Where did the idea come from?
Here at M.U.P. (More's Utopic Paradise), our way of life is based on Sir Thomas Moore's book Utopia which was released in 1516. It is a work of fiction as well as a political satire.
Who was Sir Thomas More?
More was a scholar and a statesman. He was a chancellor to King Henry VIII during Henry's break with the Catholic Church. He was a humanist at the time of the Renaissance as well as a Christian. Sir Thomas More criticized the corrupt ways of materialistic capitalism and religious fanaticism. On the contrary, he advocated for religious tolerance and Christian charity. Since he was not willing to undermine his conviction as a Roman Catholic, he was against the actions of the king and was executed for treason in 1535.
UtopiaSir Thomas More wrote this book with an intention of criticizing European society and statecraft. This book is marked as fiction for a reason: utopian societies like this do not exist!
Well, not anymore because an island has been made into Sir Thomas More's ideal society! It is 100% real and visitors are welcome as well as permanent citizens. |
